Friends of Hawthorne Park is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to preserving Hawthorne Park. The park is located in Philadelphia, PA at 12th and Catharine Street. In addition to preservation and beautification, we also produce free events for the community. Over the past few years we have presented live jazz concerts, movie nights, Shakespeare performances, Yoga, and arts fairs. These events are funded by grants along with community and local business donations. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm at the park. JAZZ IN HAWTHORNE PARKVOCALISTELLA GAHNT FREE CONCERTRescheduled Rain Date!Thursday, July 25, 2019 @ 7 p.m.Hawthorne Park, 12th & Catharine StreetsThe Friends of Hawthorne Park and Jazz Bridge present Philly vocalist Ella Gahnt in a free evening concert of live jazz this Thursday, July 25, starting at 7 p.m. Bring your kids, blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of terrific music in beautiful Hawthorne Park!Ella Gahnt tells musical stories in her own unique way while honoring the vocal legacy of Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. The stories she tells with the songs are her own, coming from her life, love and spiritual experiences. Everyone from the hard-core Jazz enthusiast to the newly-initiated will find something to relate to as Ella takes us on her personal journey through her original music. She performs frequently at Philly venues such as the Kimmel Center, South Jazz Parlor and Paris Bistro, with her own trio and with well-known Philly bands including AC Connection, the Philadelphia Legends of Jazz Orchestra, and the Eric Mintel Quartet. She recently released her third CD, Third Stage of Elegance, with all original songs written by Ella and longtime collaborator Leon Mitchell.Our final concert will be August 15 with drummer/bassist Nazir Ebo.
